Harbor Interfaith Services (HIS) CEO Tahia Hayslet recounts inspiring and touching story of HIS helps saves lives and an individual single parent who through their help continued her education and lead an outstanding life and serve as role model for family and community
Tahia Hayslet joined HIS in 1998 as founding director of the agency Accelerated Learning & Living transitional Housing program. Before being promoted to the top position in 2004, she served as program director of the agency 90 day family shelter, 18 month transitional housing program and family resource center. HIS has thirteen programs and a budget of $14 million and helps over 8,000 households with close to 17,000 service contacts.
With a master’s degree in behavioral sciences from Cal State Dominguez Hills and Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in gerontology, she attended Wells Fargo New Executive Director Institute and the Stanford University Nonprofit Executive Leadership program.
Born and raised in Lynwood, California, Tahia is happily married arried with two adult children and resides in Long Beach, California.HIS mission is to empower the homeless and working poor to achieve self-sufficiency by providing support services including shelter, transitional housing, food, job placement, advocacy, childcare, education and life-skills training within the South Bay communities. Thanks to Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn the HIS recently expanded their benevolent services to manage “transitional housing” facility in the former public health building at 8th & Beacon Streets in San Pedro and continues their remarkable good work helping people in need.
The HIS serves thousands of families in need – the goal is to see that number lower meaning the families are improving their situations. With faith and effort that will happen. We truly salute their sincere and noble effort.
