Lifetime teacher (Barton Hill Elementary School for 39 years) Joyce (Paulsen) Caudill is third generation San Pedran. She recounts the  sweet and amusing story about her San Pedro High School (SPHS) senior class the “Medallions” and a prank played that backfired

Joyce was born February 14, 1947 in San Pedro Hospital.,aughter of Viola (Peale) and Arthur Paulsen. Her maternal grandfather Walter Peale owned Peale Security Lock and Key Systems. Her paternal grandfather was German ship Captain Arsst Paulsen who arrived in SP – Port of Los Angeles – in 1919(Note: her daughter Lora Caudill is SOLAHA participant  ibVol. IV recounting story about grandfather). Her family owned Vista del Oro Gifts and Apparel  on 9th St. near Coovers Pharmacy. Joyce’s Father built Bloch Field  and the Paulsen Family is nducted into San Pedro Athletic Hall of Fame

Joyce was married to late Samuel Caudill (Korean War Army Veteran) and is mother ofLora Maree Caudill (educator), Scott Arthur Brooks Caudill (longshoreman/actor), Kelli Colbrese (RN)/. She is proud grandmother of Jay Frederick Iiams (4th gen SPHS graduate 2014), Nick Colbrese (4th gen SPHS grad 2025), Kalynn Colbrese (4th gen.SPHS class of 2027), and  Samantha Brooks Iiams (4th gen.SPHS class of 2027).

Joyce  is charming, kind, and has a great sense of humor. Wee we look forward to more stories.
