LA Harbor Commissioner talks about his dad immigrating from Italy on the Andrea Doria and the many ways he promoted Italian heritage in Los Angeles after he arrived, including starting a soccer club, co-hosting an Italian radio show, and promoting concerts that featured entertainers from Italy.

Vol. II, No. 13 Anthony Pirozzi and his dad “TV Tony” Pirozzi – First Father & Son “Duet”

Born and raised in San Pedro, Anthony Pirozzi (Jr.) is a proud San Pedro High School graduate, awarded his bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering technology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona’ and a master’s degree in engineering from Loyola Marymount University.

He currently serves as the director of systems integration, test and launch organization at the Boeing Satellite Development Center, building and launching communication satellites. He will be retiring this year. He was appointed to the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners by Mayor Eric Garcetti and confirmed in October 2013.

Anthony has been a bright presence in San Pedro active in chamber of commerce. giving service to community vis a vis Eastview Little League and co-founder of Scaliwag Productions (no longer active) that produced some great shows featuring young talent at the Warner Grand Theatre.

His father “Tony” Pirozzi (Sr.) for decades had a very successful and valued television repair business (hence aka “TV Tony”). He founded a soccer team and was great proponent of Italian culture producing many concerts at the Warner Grand Theatre. Their shared memories emigrating to the USA, radio broadcasts, soccer and perpetuating their Italian heritage truly represent the mission of Stories Of Los Angeles Harbor Area: For Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, and we say “grazie” for participating.
